I won , you lost ! You lost , I won
The above heading raises the question, Who lost and Who won. The mamta lead state government is at loggerheads with the central NDA government after the Central bureau moved to Commissioner's house for investigating In the Sharda Chit fund scam. Well, the battle between Modi and Mamta is not new, it became fiarce with Mamta denying rally permission to BJP leaders and Modi alleging Mamta and her leaders as culprit in the popular scam. Who had ever thought before the political farce of Mamta at Metro Channels that 'Bangal' will become the epicentre for this year's general election. In the times when everyone viewed Mayawati and Akhilesh and their UP crucial for general elections, Mamta emerged as a new missile to blow the Modi camp.
Sharda Chitfund Scam is a Boulder with BJP to throw on Mahagadhbandhan camp and remove their strong head Mamta from the race to PM. In the attempt of doing so, CBI went to investigate Rajiv Kumar, commissioner of Kolkata and also the head of the SIT formed to investigate Sharda Scam. This is where the BJP and Trinmool came in direct confrontation with each other. The events that followed were, Kolakata police refused CBI to interrogate Rajiv Kumar. This resulted into heated conversations between state police and CBI. Didi in a rush reached to save her commissioner from getting interrogated . Media channels were flashing breaking news of recent updates. Political debates started in every household. Everyone turned jurist and gave their own interpretations whether Kolkata police is right or CBI is right in interrogating.
Kolkata police took the CBI team to police station and arrested them. Astonishing but yes, state police arrested central police. Even if we see the hierarchy of political institutions, CBI is above from the state police. CBI is exempted from RTI as well but state police is not. Most ironic thing in the whole story was CM of the state coming to commissioners house at the earliest. The CM sooner announced that she will sit on a strike against the current regime to save democracy.
Well 'Save Democracy' was also the slogan given by JP from Ram lila maiden. He meant to save people from Indira as she had implemented emergency. Although the modi government has not implemented emergency but Indira's successors and many political parties believe so. In the next 36 hours, Mamta threw roorbacks at modi from the 'Save Democracy' stage in Metro channels. BJP retaliated by holding press conference from their not so old 5 star office at Deen Dayal Upadhyay marg. Mamta was doing so to equalise the slight swift in votes that had come after BJP top leaders were targeting Mamta or through the phone call rally of Yogi Adityanath. She wanted to create an image of Didi between WB people that their CM sat on a strike against the cruel despot Modi. Doing so would make her Prime Minister just as the way she became Chief Minister by sitting on a strike at the same place against Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. In the meantime, Mamta received support from Kejriwal twitting in favour of Mamta's decision, RaGa called Didi who had time and again refused to accept his leadership in the Mahagathbandhan. The young son of Bihar Tejasvi announced to go and meet Didi at the save democracy stage. Mayawati did not do anything to which many sarcastically stated that she might be feeling unsecured from Mamta becoming strong as she probably is the only competitor to Mayadidi. Everything is legitimate as politics and power are interconnected and the quest for power makes our politicians succumb to every possible step that makes them snatch power from their rivals.
The Apex court now came in the limelight. Modi, Mamta , common people, Media and all other political parties now waited for the SC's decision. The bench headed by CJI Ranjan Gogoi sat to hear the case. Attorney General alleged Rajeev Kumar of hiding witness from the CBI and also not helping in the probe. He also advocated that CBI has time and again written notices to Rajeev Kumar but did not receive any answer to it. He alleged Kolkata police of contempting the court orders by arresting CBI officers who had gone to investigate as the court had powered them to do so. The Defence lawyer Singhvi declared the charges fake and misleading. Sc on hearing both the sides finally gave it's decision.
The Apex court asked Rajiv Kumar to cooperate in the investigation. It also ordered that Rajeev kumar will be interrogated at Shillong and the CBI cannot arrest or take any harsh measures with Rajeev kumar. It issued noticed to Bengal DGP, Commissioner and other officials to state the reason of arresting CBI and give their reply to the court at the earliest. Now started the interpretations of the SC's orders by both BJP and Mamta. Mamta stated it as a win of democracy and BJP stated it as a defeat of Mamta and BJP's win. While figuring out who really won and who lost is very difficult but this delimma of mine made me make the above heading of the article.
Mamta received a setback when SC stated that Rajeev Kumar should help in interrogation. This is what BJp wanted that the CBI should interrogate Rajeev kumar. CBI would never had arrested Rajeev Kumar when it went to his house. They wanted to interrogate and find crucial witness that would make the Sharda case clear and bring the culprits before the nation. The decision of giving notice to DGP and other officials over the contempt of court is again where the ball came in the BJP's court. Although the order of not arresting Rajeev Kumar might be somewhat in the side of Didi.
When you look back to the Sharda Chit find scam and the CBI late night attempt to probe Commissioner, we find a linkage of events through a chain. Rajeev kumar is linked to Sharda Chit fund scam and to the crucial witnesses related to the case. Mamta is linked to Rajeev kumar in the sense that she and her minister has been alleged of corruption scam and Rajeev kumar chaired the SIT which investigated this matter earlier. CBI is linked to modi and Modi is linked to Mamta. This linkage makes the whole incident interesting. The '19 general elections are approaching and the opposition needs a leader which can possibly challenge the modi chasm. Rahul gandhi as for now does not match modi's stature. The recent political drama of didi might not have proved to be fully successful for her but has given opposition a leader that can stand up against Modi. Both Mamta and Modi might try to make people think the SC verdict as their win but the 2019 general elections will prove to us who won and who lost. After all, voters in a democratic country have the power to decide who will win and who possibly will lose.
